Ways That I Am Green

As you know, I am very Earth concious and I try to be as “Green” as possible. I’ve decided to list out what I try to do in my daily life in order to stop wasting the Earth and stop Global Warming. Some of them are really small but I do what I can.

  • I drive a Hybrid, my Toyota Prius. Yes, it still pollutes but it’s the most fuel efficient thing out there.
  • I car pool with Brian everyday to and from work.
  • I reuse my old water bottles and refill them.
  • I use hand towels instead of paper towels to clean spills and things. It’s easier to throw them in the wash.
  • I always try to use energy saver everything like light bulbs.
  • I turn my room temperature to 68 in the winter and 75 in the summer. I open the windows as much as possible on nice cool days.
  • I recycle everything I humanly can; beer bottles, cans, junk mail. In MoCo, it’s hard to recycle but I put aside cans and jars and paper to recycle over Brian’s parents house. I also have a special recycling drawer that I put useless non-identifiable paper and things in to recycle later.
  • I reuse paper if there’s not much written on it, I just scratch it out.
  • I reuse my lunch bags and other bags. When I go to the mall, I take a plastic bag with me, that way I’m not using one of theirs. I also reuse my sandwich bags by wrapping my sandwich up with a napkin. I need a napkin anyway.
  • I turn my computer and speakers off whenever I’m not using them. Except for my work computer which needs to update itself. I turn that off for the weekend.
  • I turn off lights whenever I exit a room. Except at work. I was instructed to leave my light on forever since I have the front office and the bosses want it to look like our office is busy even though no one is in the office.
  • I use rechargeable batteries for remotes, cameras, controllers, etc.
  • I buy Green things. Like our shake flashlight.
  • I manually open doors instead of going through automatic doors whenever possible. I also use the stairs instead of elevators (unless it’s really high like 4+ stories).
  • I reuse tinfoil and plastic wrap as much as possible, if I can.
  • I roll down my windows like all the time in the car instead of air conditioning. This sometimes helps fuel efficiency.
  • Over Dad’s, I do the same sorts of things. I recycle whatever I can. When I find metal I put it in one of the junk cars that goes to the scrap yard to get recycled. I’ll pick aluminum cans out of the trash to put them into the recycling.

McCain’s Support For Our Troops & The Media

It made me outraged that McCain released a load of garbage ad against Obama that’s full of nothing but falsehoods.

It is true that Obama cancelled his visit with the troops but not because the center “wouldn’t allow cameras”. Obama was afraid that visiting the troop hospital would make it look like a campaign prop. In fact the footage used in the ad was of Obama playing basketball WITH THE TROOPS. Chuck Hagel even thinks the ad is inappropriate!

The ad also states that Obama doesn’t support the troops and McCain does. Well I found an article that compiled all the work for me on that one.

The ads McCain releases and what McCain says totally contradicts truth in some matters. It seems the media is giving McCain free passes. They don’t bother to fact check him. He claims he supports the troops when it’s clear he doesn’t. Look at his record, it speaks for itself.

McCain is banking on the media not paying attention or waving off his little misspeaks and gaffes; and it’s worked out so far for him. I’m compiling a list of gaffes McCain has made since the start of his campaign. I will be posting it in the upcoming weeks, or I just might wait until the election since I’m sure there will be many many more up until then.

Bottom line, the media really needs to make more of this and not let McCain get away with whatever he says that is false. We need fact checking here. And people need to stop believing every word that comes out of these politicians mouths. Do your fact checks, the media obviously isn’t going to do it for you since they apparently have their own agenda.

McCain’s Recent Comments

Now, last week I gained respect for John McCain and what he came out and said about the New Yorker.

“I think it’s totally inappropriate and frankly I understand if Senator Obama and his supporters would find it offensive.”

Welp, this week, he lost what respect he gained with me by saying:

“I had the courage and political judgement to say that I would rather lose a political campaign than lose a war. It seems to me Senator Obama would rather lose a war in order to win a political campaign.”

I’m sorry but, how could anyone say that? I find that probably one of the rudest things I’ve heard in politics. It’s just down right dirty and wrong.

And about the surge, here’s my take: THE SURGE DIDN’T WORK. What was the surge supposed to do? Provide a secure environment so the Iraqi’s could set up their government and achieve POLITICAL RECONCILIATION. Did that happen? No.

Yes, yes, yes it is more secure in Iraq, but the goal of the surge was NOT MET. So how can you say that it worked?

Furthermore, if said surge “worked”, why aren’t we starting to withdraw then? All this “success” in Iraq, why haven’t we discussed a timeline for withdraw? The Iraqi Prime Minister and the Iraqi National Security Advisor both said this month that we need a timetable for withdraw.

No matter how you cut it, those troops need to come home now. Please, talk about a timeline or “time horizon”… however you want to call it. Just get them home, and soon!

So We Have A Few People With Us…

My coworker, Howard, forwarded me this email yesterday…

Some interesting thoughts!

Where Have All the Leaders Gone?
by Lee Iacocca  (Hardcover – April 17, 2007)

He’s not talking just about George Bush. It’s time to vote them all out. That includes Hillary and Barack and John and Nancy and Harry.

Remember Lee Iacocca, the man who rescued Chrysler Corporation from it’s death throes? He has a new book, and here are some excerpts. Lee Iacocca Says:

Am I the only guy in this country who’s fed up with what’s happening? Where the hell is our outrage? We should be screaming bloody murder. We’ve got a gang of clueless bozos steering our ship of state right over a cliff, we’ve got corporate gangsters stealing us blind, and we can’t even clean up after a hurricane much less build a hybrid car.

But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads when the politicians say, ‘Stay the course’.

Stay the course? You’ve got to be kidding. This is America , not the *darn* ‘Titanic’. I’ll give you a sound bite: ‘Throw all the bums out!’

You might think I’m getting senile, that I’ve gone off my rocker, and maybe I have. But someone has to speak up. I hardly recognize this country anymore.

The most famous business leaders are not the innovators but the guys in handcuffs. While we’re fiddling in Iraq , the Middle East is burning and nobody seems to know what to do. And the press is waving ‘pom -poms’ instead of asking hard questions. That’s not the promise of the ‘ America ‘ my parents and yours traveled across the ocean for.

I’ve had enough. How about you?

I’ll go a step further. You can’t call yourself a patriot if you’re not outraged. This is a fight I’m ready and willing to have. The Biggest ‘C’ is Crisis!

Leaders are made, not born… Leadership is forged in times of crisis. It’s easy to sit there with your feet up on the desk and talk theory. Or send someone else’s kids off to war when you’ve never seen a battlefield yourself. It’s another thing to lead when your world comes tumbling down.

On September 11, 2001, we needed a strong leader more than any other time in our history We needed a steady hand to guide us out of the ashes. A hell of a mess. So here’s where we stand. We’re immersed in a bloody war with no plan for winning and no plan for leaving. We’re running the biggest deficit in the history of the country. We’re losing the manufacturing edge to Asia , while our once-great companies are getting slaughtered by health care costs. Gas prices are skyrocketing, and nobody in power has a coherent energy policy. Our schools are in trouble. Our borders are like sieves The middle class is being squeezed every which way These are times that cry out for leadership.

When you look around, you’ve got to ask: ‘Where have all the leaders gone?’ Where are the curious, creative communicators? Where are the people of character, courage, conviction, omnipotence, and common sense? I may be a sucker for alliteration, but I think you get the point.

Name me a leader who has a better idea for homeland security than making us take off our shoes in airports and throw away our shampoo? We’ve spent billions of dollars building a huge new bureaucracy, and all we know how to do is react to things that have already happened.

Name me one leader who emerged from the crisis of Hurricane Katrina. Congress has yet to spend a single day evaluating the response to the hurricane, or demanding accountability for the decisions that were made in the crucial hours after the storm.

Everyone’s hunkering down, fingers crossed, hoping it doesn’t happen again. Now, that’s just crazy. Storms happen. Deal with it. Make a plan. Figure out what you’re going to do the next time.

Name me an industry leader who is thinking creatively about how we can restore our competitive edge in manufacturing. Who would have believed that there could ever be a time when ‘The Big Three’ referred to Japanese car companies? How did this happen, and more important, what are we going to do about it?

Name me a government leader who can articulate a plan for paying down the debit, or solving the energy crisis, or managing the health care problem. The silence is deafening. But these are the crises that are eating away at our country and milking the middle class dry.

I have news for the gang in Congress. We didn’t elect you to sit on your asses and do nothing and remain silent while our democracy is being hijacked and our greatness is being replaced with mediocrity.

What is everybody so afraid of? That some bonehead on Fox News will call them a name? Give me a break. Why don’t you guys show some spine for a change?

Had enough? Hey, I’m not trying to be the voice of gloom and doom here. I’m trying to light a fire. I’m speaking out because I have hope I believe in America… In my lifetime I’ve had the privilege of living through some of America’s greatest moments. I’ve also experienced some of our worst crises: the ‘Great Depression’, ‘World War II’, the ‘Korean War’, the ‘Kennedy Assassination’, the ‘Vietnam War’, the 1970s oil crisis, and the struggles of recent years culminating with 9/11. If I’ve learned one thing, it’s this: ‘You don’t get anywhere by standing on the sidelines waiting for somebody else to take action.

Whether it’s building a better car or building a better future for our children, we all have a role to play. That’s the challenge I’m raising in this book. It’s a call to ‘Action’ for people who, like me, believe in America. It’s not too late, but it’s getting pretty close. So let’s shake off the crap and go to work. Let’s tell ’em all we’ve had ‘enough.’

McCain’s Actual “Straight Talk Express”

Below are a lot of issues I compiled to show McCain’s various flip flops on issues or a list of issues where McCain’s view has “evolved”:

ROE VS. WADE
1999: McCain: “Certainly in the short term, or even the long term, I would not support repeal of Roe v. Wade, which would then force X number of women in America to [undergo] illegal and dangerous operations.”

2008: For a repeal of Roe vs Wade.

———-

OFFSHORE DRILLING
1999: McCain supported drilling moratorium. He also scolded the special interests in Washington that sought offshore drilling leases.

2008: Vowed to end the federal ban on offshore oil drilling.

———-

BUSH TAX CUTS
2001 and 2003: McCain voted against Bush tax cuts.

2008: Supports Bush tax cuts and will EXTEND them as president.

———-

AMNESTY FOR ILLEGALS
2003: McCain: “Amnesty has to be an important part because there are people who have lived in this country for 20, 30 or 40 years, who have raised children here and pay taxes here and are not citizens.”

2007: McCain: “The fact is that I’ve never supported amnesty.”

———-

IRAQ
2002: McCain: “I believe that the success will be fairly easy.”

2007: McCain: “I knew it was probably going to be long and hard and tough and those who voted for it and thought that somehow it was going to be some kind of an easy task, they were mistaken.”

2008: McCain: “But again, I would remind you, I said we would have an easy victory. We did.”

———-

IRAQ TIMETABLE
2008: McCain: “This success that we have achieved is still fragile and could be reversed.” and “If we do what Sen. Obama wants to do, then all of that could be reversed.” (When asked about a possible Iraq timetable.)

2008: McCain: “I think it’s a pretty good timetable, as we should, or horizons for withdrawal.” (When asked about what Maliki wants to do which is what Obama has been saying all along, a 16 month time table.)

———-

GAY MARRIAGE
2008: McCain: “I think gay marriage should be allowed if there’s a ceremony kinda thing, if you want to call it that. I don’t have any problem with that.”

2008: McCain: “I do not believe gay marriages should be legal.” (During the same debate.)

———-

TORTURE & WATERBOARDING
2005: McCain introduced the McCain Amendment 1977 or the Detainee Treatment Act of 2005 which prohibits the inhumane treatment of prisoners by interrogations.

2007: McCain: “People who have worn the uniform and had the experience know that this is a terrible and odious practice and should never be condoned in the U.S. We are a better nation than that.” (In response to the issue of waterboarding)

2008: McCain sided with Bush and supported a veto of an anti-warterboarding bill.

———-

PRIVATIZING SOCIAL SECURITY
2004: McCain: “I don’t see how you can possibly, overtime, make sure that young Americans are able to receive Social Security benefits.” (Without privatizing Social Security.)

2008: McCain: “I’m not for, quote, privatizing Social Security. I never have been. I never will be.”

———-

REV WRIGHT COMMENTS
2008: McCain: “I mean being involved in that, it’s beyond belief.”

Yet McCain has been associated with extremists like John Haggy and Ron Parsley (who he campaigned with earlier last year).

———-

WARRENTLESS WIRETAPPING
2007: McCain: “I think that presidents have the obligation to obey and enforce laws that are passed by Congress and signed into law by the president, no matter what the situation is.” and “I don’t think the president has the right to disobey any law.”

2008: McCain believes Bush has the authority to conduct warrentless wiretapping.

———-

ESTATE TAX

BALANCED BUDGET
2008: McCain has been quoted as saying “will not leave office without balancing the federal budget” and has said in February he would balance the budget by the end of his first term.

2008: One of McCain’s economic advisers has said “McCain’s overall goal is to balance the budget by the end of his second term” later in April.

———-

WINDFALL PROFITS TAX
2008: McCain: “I don’t like obscene profits being made anywhere. I’d be glad to look not just at the windfall profits tax, that’s not what bothers me, but we should look at any incentives that we are giving to people, or industries or corporations, that are distorting the markets.”

2008: McCain: “If that plan sounds familiar, it’s because that was President Carter’s big idea, too.” and “I’m all for recycling, but it’s better applied to paper and plastic than to the failed policies of the 1970s.” (McCain also criticized Obama for supporting it.)

———-

MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY
1983: Opposed the holiday’s creation.

2008: Supports the holiday, even made a speech on it in 2008.

———-

SANCTIONS
1985: Voted against imposing sanctions against South Africa.

1986: Voted against considering imposing economic sanctions against South Africa.

2008: McCain: “We should privatize the sanctions against Iran by launching a worldwide divestment campaign. …Years ago, the moral clarity and conviction of civilized nations came together in a divestment campaign against South Africa, helping to rid that nation of the evil of apartheid.”

———-

KATRINA INVESTIGATIONS
2005 and 2006: McCain votes against establishment of a 9/11 kind of Congressional commission to examine the Federal, State, and local government response to Katrina. Both proposals sponsored by Senator Clinton.

2007: McCain: “I am not an expert on Wall Street.” and “The issue of economics is not something I’ve understood as well as I should.” and “I’ve got Greenspan’s book.”

2008: McCain: “I have not. I have not. Actually, I have not. I said that I am stronger on national security issues because of all the time I spent in the military. I’m very strong on the economy. I understand it.” (When confronted about him saying he’s not an expert on the economy. He interrupted the interviewer.)

———-

ENGLISH AS OUR NATIONAL LANGUAGE
2006: McCain voted to declare English the national language of the US.

2007: McCain: “I am against tax increases. I am against increases in taxes. I think there are ways to fix Social Security without that.”

2008: McCain: “There is nothing that’s off the table. I have my positions, and I’ll articulate them. But nothing’s off the table.” (In response to a question regarding whether or not he would increase payroll taxes)

———-

THE DRAFT
2007: McCain: “I might consider it, I don’t think it’s necessary, but I might consider it if you could design a draft where everybody equally could serve.” (When asked about reinstating the draft.)

2008: McCain: “I don’t know what would make a draft happen unless we were in an all-out World War III.” and “I do not believe the draft is even practicable or desirable.”

2008: McCain: “Ma’am let me say that I don’t disagree with anything you said and thank you and I am grateful for your support of all of our veterans.” (When a veteran asked if we don’t reenact the draft, there won’t be anyone to get Bin Laden.)

———-

NOTE ABOUT THE $300 MILLION PRIZE FOR CAR BATTERY
McCain said he’d pay for this prize by eliminating pork barrel projects (unspecified pork barrel projects) yet he said that eliminating those would pay for his other spending.

———-

NOTE ABOUT MCCAIN BEING IN TOUCH WITH THE AMERICAN PEOPLE
McCain has used his wife’s corporate jet for campaign purposes. McCain in 2007 backed legislation requiring presidential candidates to pay the cost of flying on corporate jets. Using his wife’s jet is, obviously, exempt from this legislation.

———-

FEW QUESTIONS FOR MCCAIN

  • What military experience do you have that makes you qualified to be president?
  • How come when I go to Courageous Service on your website nothing’s there?
  • What SPECIFIC earmarks will you cut to save $100 billion?
  • Will you cut the $4.3 billion aid to Israel and Egypt (it’s an earmark)?
  • Do you think we have memory loss or something when you say you haven’t said you’re not good on the economy when there are quotes everywhere contradicting that statement?
  • How can you say you’re in touch with the American people when your wife, Cindy McCain, spent $750,000 in credit card charges in ONE MONTH?
  • How can you claim that you are in touch with the American people when you don’t even know how many houses you own?
  • How can you prove you understand America’s hardships and problems?
  • Do you believe that you were tortured in Vietnam? According to the Bush Administration’s definition of torture (which you side with and support), you WERE NOT tortured.
  • Would you reinstate the draft to fight all these wars you want to wage? Yes or no. Simple answer please.

If It’s Sunday, It’s Meet The Press

I’m deeply deeply saddened by today’s news about Tim Russert. I can’t believe it. He is so awesome. I can’t describe.

He helped me get into politics. For the past three years every Sunday (up until my Dad died) I’d always watch Meet The Press. It was something I really looked forward to. Every Sunday. Tim would get them.

He was amazing at what he did. He did so much research and really got people. He kept them honest. He asked tough questions and did what all media should do, grill them.

I can’t help but think how much he will be missed and how much of an impact he had in the media and on politics. I know I will miss him, especially during this next election.

I Hate The Media

Just a quick thought before I have to go to a meeting… I hate the media.

Headlines alone DON’T TELL anyone the story. I was shocked to read Former Obama Fundraiser Convicted Of Corruption. However, you must read the entire story to get the whole story.

Firstly, every candidate gets caught in something like this. Secondly, he was a FORMER Obama Donator. Furthermoe, he hasn’t donated to Obama since 2004, well before Obama decided to run for president. Also, the money Obama got from this guy, went to charity. Also, and this is a big one, Obama never did any favors for him, nor did he do any favors for Obama.

Reading just the headlines of articles is wrong. The media is wrong. The facts are buried in the article all the way at the bottom. The defense rests.

Time For Hillary To Step Down

Tomorrow night, the super delegates have given what Hillary Clinton wanted, a chance to finish out the primaries. Tomorrow night she should step down and admit defeat.

When every state has completed voting, the time has come. Hillary can not claim anything anymore. Barack Obama will be the Democratic nominee. She can not argue popular vote, she can not make any more cases for super delegates, she will have lost. She should graciously exit.

She’s holding an election night celebration tomorrow night in New York, the perfect time for her to admit defeat. She put on a good fight but now, finally, it is time to admit it and reunite the party before the convention in order to beat the Republicans in the fall.

Hillary, my dear, it’s time to go. Your unwillingness to concede has cost us a lot of time, voters, and media attention. This attention could have been focusing on John McCain’s numerous Iraq mistakes, giving our party a better shot. I thank you for playing but the time has come. You ran a good campaign and should be proud to be the first woman to get this far in a presidential race. You should feel really good about what you’ve accomplished. You have the respect of millions of Americans. Please, don’t take advantage of that. Please, do the right thing. You still have a large voice in the Senate. Do what’s right, even with that much power, you still make a difference everyday. You should be proud, Hill-dawg.

Typo’s In News Articles

Hasn’t anyone heard of proof reading before publishing? Check out this article.

“He’s one who made the adjustment in about 30 seconds. There’re some who had a little bit more difficulty coming back,” said Bennett, a Republican who represents Utah.

I see typo’s all the time in news articles but this one I couldn’t resist since a Republican said it, LOL.

Yes, I know it probably had nothing to do with Bennett but it’s still pretty funny. What does “there’re” mean anyway?

New Blog

I’ve started another blog about adventures and stuff with my Dad’s house. It’s at www.longlivethemonkey.com/dadshouse. I’m currently updating it from all the past and current projects we are working on.

By the way, love the new WordPress update. I didn’t know they made it more awesome now. I can actually find things!

Screen Names

So I’ve decided to try to figure out how I can get my screen name on things that I currently can not… so to speak.

I’ve had the same screen name for my entire life basically (since 1996), niles38. On some things, however, I am not niles38, I’m niles38d. I want to try to figure out a way to change it since niles38 is taken on such places. They are:

  • YouTube (niles38d)
  • eBay (niles38d)
  • AIM (niles38d)

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can change it? With AIM, I think I messed up when registering it like 10 years ago or whenever it was. I’ve never seen niles38 get on. I think I registered and it messed up or something. Back then I had other email accounts of which I can’t remember. Besides that, I was always paranoid of the internet. Now I’m more trusting. For eBay, I don’t think I can do anything. For YouTube, I guess I could message the guy and see if he’d be willing to give it up.

Doh, I hate OCD! Maybe I should just change everything to like longlivethemonkey or something.

Random Thoughts 4/30/08

  • GTA IV’s graphics rock. The targeting isn’t good. The driving isn’t good. What’s up with the hand brake? The controls are way different than San Andreas. A lot has changed as far as determining the health, etc of your character. So far I like San Andreas better.
  • WordPress is bugging me for another update. Updating this thing is a bitch.
  • I’m actually not going to Annapolis this weekend! Can we say party?
  • O’s won last night! Let’s keep it up!
  • Robin Williams rocked on SVU last night, though it wasn’t like the best episode of SVU yet like some are saying. I wonder if that episode was trying to make a political statement. If so, it certainly didn’t come out and say it.
  • Facebook is getting lame. That’s all I have to say about that.

2008 Economic Stimulus Package

Okay, so I read all about this thing when it first was passed back in February. I thought I’d blog about it since checks will soon be out and people will soon be getting their bit of money.

Here are some little facts about this bill:

  • You only get this tax rebate if you filed your 2007 taxes on time.
  • Should be expecting around $600 per person (less than $75k),$1200 for married people who filed jointly (less than $150k). If you’ve made more than these amounts (those who are reading this probably did not), the amount goes down.
  • Parents will get $300 per child.
  • Folks who were in college last year, sorry, you don’t get one, even if you made money last year. Nor do your parents get the $300 per kid because you’re not under the age of 17.
  • People with ITIN’s don’t get anything, even if they file jointly with someone who has a SSN.
  • Whatever money you get from this bill, you have to pay back on your 2008 tax returns (if you are in the green).

Personally, I think this bill is a waste of time and money. I urge people to be smart and SPEND NOTHING and put this money away in an ING account or other high interest savings account until you have to pay it back. It’s better to earn interest on this “free money” than spend it (unless you desperately need to).

I find it funny Comcast has a commercial out to encourage people to spend this money by supporting local business’s. I don’t think it’s a good idea to spend any of that money since you have to pay it back in 2009. I just think it’s pointless and it hurts people. I’d opt out of it if I could.

Barack Obama

Barack Obama has a new donator… me. I just donated to Barack Obama’s campaign and I do feel good about it. I decided it’s time. I support him, he is my choice. I want him to put Hillary away and finish this thing. I want a headline tomorrow to read “Hillary makes $10 Million in 24 hours to Barack’s $20 Million”. I want this so bad I can’t wait for it. I wait for a lot of things… Anyway, go Obama!

Mattress Warehouse

Decided to rant about what kind of experience I had with Mattress Warehouse. Hopefully this post will get some people to think twice before purchasing anything from them.

So Brian and I decided we want a Tempurpedic bed. Pricey, yes, but I figure 20 year warranty, get a king size so Candi can sleep with us, it’d be worth it. We go on a Sunday and pick out a great bed. We check out this Posturpedic. It feels great. It shapes to our bodies. We basically fall asleep. We strike a deal to get it. After some discussion, we get the guy to knock off 20% and free delivery. Great! We also discuss who needs to take off.

The next day I put in a request for leave, take a half day Wednesday, destress, have the bed delivered. Fabulous.

Tuesday night comes around, the guy calls and says they don’t have the bed. WTF? We ordered it! They don’t have it. How is that possible? Ugh, fine. The guy wants us to come down to check out another bed so we go. None of them feel the same. Bait and switch. We had none of it. We decided to give them the rest of the week to come up with the bed.

Next day I go to work as normal. The guy said we should expect a call Wednesday with an update. Okay… No call.

Thursday comes around and I’m pretty mad that they didn’t give us the decency of a call to update us on what’s going on. By this time, we’ve had it. We just want our money back. The guy said he’ll give us our money back but it’ll take a few days to transfer it. We should HAVE IT by Saturday. Okay.

We check our accounts Sunday night. Yes, it has been a week since we PURCHASED the mattress. Nothing.

Monday comes around, nothing is in our accounts. Brian said he actually got a call from them saying they need us to come in so they can swipe our cards to give us our refund. Uh, does that sound strange to you? I questioned it, highly, but we go anyway. He gives us a piece of paper with some more bait and switch mattresses on it. We want none of it from this company. He swipes our cards, prints out the little thing we need to sign (it was done in three transactions, two for me and one for Bri). The peice of paper has our credit card numbers on it! I thought that was illegal! Whatever, we sign them anyway. Then the guy wants us to sign that we GOT a refund. Uh, we’re not sure, it probably posted, but we’re not trusting this place anymore. Brian writes “refuse to sign” on it.

Today, Tuesday, we are lucky we DIDN’T sign it. Mattress Warehouse STILL hasn’t posted our refund. It’ll be 24 hours since we went back for the forth time. I’m sure some can say it might take some time, that’s BS cause our banks post right away! The second I deposit anything, I see it. I can’t access it, but I can see it.

We’ve contacted the BBB and Montgomery County consumer protection. Hopefuly they’ll fine them or do something. This should NOT be allowed to happen. So I end this blog with don’t shop at Mattress Warehouse.

Good To Be Out Of The Loop

Reading reviews and blogs and what not about the other nights democratic debate, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s good to be out of the political loop.

I hope this debate highlights a little more how stupid, ignorant, and undemocratic the media truly is. The media is a joke in this country and that last debate proved it (as if it WASN’T proven before in the countless bias debates held in this country). Why can’t people see this is a joke? They tell us what to believe. Look at each candidates time in these debates. It’s ridiculous. How are we supposed to get to know a candidate if they don’t get any TIME?

And the last debate, more questions were asked about Clinton and Obama’s CHARACTER versus questions about substance and adequacy for the most important job in the world. Isn’t that what they’re interviewing for? Why aren’t they asking the tough questions about policy and views of importance? With the economy being this shitty, gas prices soaring, and the war in Iraq with no end in sight, they choose questions that are of no importance.

And I love how Hillary is being hypocritical, yet again. She previously said how the questions were (tear) too hard. Now she’s complaining that Obama said something about the questions being too hard (which that’s not what he said anyway, more media spin there). Amazing how a few months ago she was the one complaining about the difficult “gotcha” questions. Another adventure of Hypocritical Hillary.

So I’m out until the Democrats choose a nominee. Of course I still pay attention to the headlines. Everyday there’s more and more reason to protest and want change and to hate the war and hate the direction this country is going; how one in five veterans from the Iraq/Afghanistan wars have a mental disorder. We really take care of our troops in this country. Everyday I become more shocked and suprised there’s not riots in the streets of every city; how there’s not massive mobs of people taking on the White House. What’s wrong with us? Why do we put up with the media, the lies, our distrustful politicians who we keep electing? What happened to the protests and protest songs of the 70’s that got motivation?

I’ll end by saying will we get fooled again? I WON’T get fooled again!

What Needs To Change About Baseball

After the Orioles losses last night, it got me to think about everything I would want to see changed about baseball (MLB). The Orioles haven’t won nor have been to the playoffs since 1997. They always come in 4th in the American League East. The Orioles and other sucky teams like the Nationals and the Blue Jays could benefit from serious changes.

Here’s what I think we need to change about the sport:

  1. Cut down the season. 160+ games is way too long. It runs into football and let’s face it, no one watches baseball as soon as football season rolls around. I figure cut the season in half. 70 maybe 80 games. Stop extending it. All the records are being broke because players have a lot more games to play. It simply isn’t fair. Cutting the season would also probably increase popularity. Look at how crowded every football game is. Baseball simply isn’t like that.
  2. Standardize EVERY stadium.  A home run in one stadium is different than a home run in another? Bull s**t. Sorry, no. All stadiums should confirm to one fixed design. This way there’s no advantages to being in one stadium or another.
  3. HARD HARD HARD salary cap. PLEASE! Please put a salary cap on baseball. There might be already one but it simply isn’t good enough. When A-Rod is making MORE than the entire team of the Florida Marlins, there’s a problem. The Yankees and Red Sox will always win because they have so much money for talent. Poorer teams (like Baltimore) don’t even come close to what the Yankees make. When you have an unlimited supply of money, you can build a dream team every year. When was the last time the Yankees DIDN’T make it to at least the playoffs?
  4. Keep up with technology and drugs on the steroid front. All these players are STILL taking steroids. Football has been ahead of this for some time. You do them, you’re out. Simple as that. Drug test and suspend for violations. Lord knows we have the technology to stay ahead of the growth hormone game.
  5. Abolish the National League. In football, both conferences are identical. In baseball, the National League has their pitchers bat. Get rid of that, or make both conferences the exact same.

Basically, baseball needs to take a cue from football. Do these few things and I think baseball would be a more fair and enjoyable sport. Plus more teams would win every year, which increases more popularity because of band wagoners.

I wonder if I’ll ever see the Orioles win again.

Rock Band For Wii

Brian was thinking about getting Rock Band for the Wii when it came out. I decided to look it up exactly when it comes out cause I can’t wait to play it and we have a lot of fun over Shawn and Jen’s place.

Well, to my dismay, it seems like it won’t be nearly as cool as it is on Xbox 360. It doesn’t come out until June 22nd anyway.

Look at the article at http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/24/rock-band-wii-drum-kit-pictured-nagging-questions-answered/

Basically it WON’T have:

  • customizable avatars, no using of Mii’s (what other games CAN you use them for?)
  • downloadable content via the Rock Store
  • Guitar Hero III guitars won’t work with it
  • no online play so no bands, so basically all quickplay
  • no leaderboards

So, yeah, it’s lame. The drum set looks cool but not worth it. We’re going to buy it for the 360 soon. Letting all you know, avoid PS2 and Wii, and buy Rock Band for Xbox instead.

Democrats

I’ve been out of politics for about a month now, not watching Meet The Press or Chris Matthews or really deeply reading the news. I’m glad I have because the same stuff is going on. I’m tired of the election. That’s all anyone ever talks about anymore.

The main reason for this post is to just make a statement. I’m tired of the democrats. I’m not tired of being a democrat, but I’m tired of their politics. The way they talk yet do nothing. I have to admit, I still get hopeful when I hear things like this:

“It is no wonder that this memo … could not withstand scrutiny and had to be withdrawn,” said Leahy, D-Vermont. “This memo seeks to find ways to avoid legal restrictions and accountability on torture and threatens our country’s status as a beacon of human rights around the world.” (about the memo just released on Bush authorizing torture)

“On April Fools’ Day, the biggest joke of all is being played on American families by Big Oil, who are using every trick in the book to keep billions in federal tax subsidies, even as they rake in record profits,” said Rep. Edward Markey, D-Mass. (about yesterday’s oil executive meeting with Congress, which accomplished nothing)

My question is will they do anything about the stuff they speak about? Will they stand up and put their money where their mouth is, so to speak? Will they walk the walk? Of late, the answer has been (of course) no. I’m tired of false statements. They don’t really give a s**t do they? They talk about fairness and liberty and peace and justice but they fall short everytime.
